Synopsis:

The highly renowned cybersecurity expert — Mr. Mohit Yadav got digitally arrested by some cyber scammers.  Our team caught all the actions and uploaded them to our YouTube channel, Craw Security.

What is a Digital Arrest?

The term “Digital Arrest” is pretty new in the technological world, where a person, who pretends to be from a law enforcement department, acts like a genuine police officer, and using varied social engineering tactics, persuades a victim not to use any of one’s social media handles or any communication mode to contact anyone to help.  The victim is pressurized in such a way that one thinks of becoming trapped in some big Money Laundering case.

Moreover, the scammers compel the victim to pay huge amounts of money in order to save themselves from this big case.  Scammers even share some fake documents just to make themselves more legitimate in the eyes of the victim and extract more money by trapping him in fear of rigorous imprisonment and hard monetary penalties levied on him by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the Government of India.

How can Digital Arrest be done?

As the name suggests, Digital Arrest can be done by compromising the digital liberty of a victim over a video call on any video calling application through a smartphone or a system.  In this situation of digital arrest, the victim is taken into full confidence that he might have been trapped in a condition where his Personally Identifiable Information (PII) has been compromised for whatever reasons and is used in some illegal case, like Money Laundering, Pick Pocketing, Sextortion, Ransom, Kidnapping, or any other thing.

We are attaching a YouTube video, where Mr. Mohit Yadav, a highly renowned cybersecurity expert is acting like a victim who literally got puzzled while having these consecutive calls from these scamsters.

In the above video, the con artists are using their best tricks, tools, and techniques to trap Mr. Yadav in such a way as to make him compelled to pay money in the name of making this case fast-track and let him free as soon as possible.  Innocent victims who don’t have any special information about the whole hacking scenario get befooled through the varied tactics they have mastered many times over several victims.

Moreover, you may watch in the concerned video that:

  • The man in police disguise creates an environment where he has called the headquarters over a wireless walky-talky and lets him understand the case with a suitable ‘fake’ case number.
  • In return, the other person says that they have got a debit card from SBI bank under the name of ‘Ravi Kumar,’ which is the fake name of Mr. Yadav that he told to the scamsters right at the start of the video.
  • At the start, he asked for the name of Mr. Mohit Yadav, which he told him was a fake name “Ravi Kumar” which the scammer confirmed after watching the UID (Aadhar Card) from Mr. Yadav.

  • The move of sending this fake Aadhar Card tricked him well and he thought that this person’s actual name was Ravi Kumar.
  • The so-called policeman also shared some bogus evidence just to support his words. The documents are literally crafted to make the victim more fearsome and obtain as much money as they could.
  • Further, the fraudster even asked to share the screenshot of the HDFC Bank account that Mr. Yadav possesses in order to get an idea of how much he carries in his own savings bank account.

  • The fraudster then told Mr. Mohit Yadav that they had gotten a debit card from SBI bank under his name ‘Ravi Kumar’ among 247 debit and credit cards they had seized from a money laundering gang of ‘Suresh Anurag’ along with 5 associates of Suresh Anurag and other items. He even shared a document declaring the same where the name of Ravi Kumar and his UID number were also written on the top of it.

  • Lastly, the scammer played his masterstroke by sending an Arrest Warrant in the name of Ravi Kumar along with the Adhar Card number written on it. In addition to that, the photo displayed on the fake Aadhar Card with the name of Ravi Kumar being sent to the fraudster by Mohit Yadav was also attached to the same fake arrest warrant.

  • In the end, the scammer demanded the money to fast-track the case associated with the name Ravi Kumar. In reply, Mohit Yadav makes him while trying to take his PAN card to send money from the Cred application which demands the receiver’s PAN Card to send money.

  • You can even watch the hilarious moment when the fraudster was trying hard and getting annoyed to make Mr. Yadav do payment from the PhonePe application which doesn’t support this feature.
